Montgomery has a depth of history. This building is the blacksmith's shop in the Fernland Historical Park close to the downtown area of the town. The park consists of a series of wood-constructed buildings dating as far back as the 1820s.
The preservation of the buildings and tools gives a real impression of what it must have been like over 200 years ago. |

The beautifully constructed, hand-hewn buildings in Fernland Park are a testiment to the pioneering immigrants who constructed them. James Jordan (or Jardine) was born in Ireland in 1790 and came to Texas in 1826 where he purchased land from the Mexican Government. He built this log cabin about 1830 in present Walker County. The house was moved to Montgomery and restored by Mr & Mrs B. Carroll Tharp in 1976.

Memory Park is a very pretty spot right next to the Historical park and the town's library.
The park is a haven of peace and a great place to spot butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, fish, turtles and birds. The park has landscaped gardens and memorial markers around a central pond. |

Despite being only 30 minutes or so from the urban centers of Conroe and The Woodlands, Montgomery is still very much in the heart of the countryside and is surrounded by farms and ranches.
This is one of the gorgeous tree-lined roads leading south from Montgomery towards Magnolia, The Woodlands or the metropolis of Houston. |
