Memorial Tributes
I can't quite believe that we lost Mr McQuade in early 2025. He was still young, but passed during a procedure for a problem he'd developed on a foreleg. McQuade was the epitome of a wolf - very handsome with those piercing golden eyes. He could look quite fearsome if he looked directly at you but really he was a gentle boy and had a strong sense of fun. His best trick was playing 'boo'! He'd wait until you were not looking, then launch himself at the fence to see if he could scare you. ....and yes, most of the time he did a pretty good job of that! Farewell big fellow.
Romulus was an unusual resident for a Wolf Sanctuary - he was 100% dog (a malamute/husky cross). He came to us because he'd originally be sold as a Wolfdog, but there was no Wolf in there at all. Rom had a remarkable life with us, reaching the grand old age of 15. Finally the years caught up with him and he passed in August 2024.
Aponi passed in April 2024. She had been a real joy to watch as she lept with joy at meal times - she could easily reach 6 feet in a single bound, almost as if she had springs instead of legs. During a routine medical procedure she simply did not recover - although these things can happen from time-to-time we were no less devastated to unexpectedly lose our youngest resident.
Sadly, we lost our beloved Achilles in February 2024 to a rapidly-advancing lymphoma. Achilles was the first of the pack to decide that I was OK for a human. He greeted me on my first day by playfully splashing me with water from his tub in the 'shift'.
The elder of our Pack (since I joined) - the beautiful Tala, passed at 14 years old in May 2023.
Tala is missed by us all very much. Her 'son', Meeko was sad without his Mama for a while, but fortunately he was already fully bonded with Kaya who was there to help him through his grieving. Farewell Tala - I hope you are still maintaining pack discipline up there in Wolfdog Heaven.
